DAF stated the National Fire Ant Eradication Program (NFAEP) is the most successful of its kind in the world, and since fire ants were first detected in Brisbane in 2001, had limited spread of this aggressive invasive pest to approximately 5km per year, which it said compared to more than 40km per year spread seen in the United States and even more rapid spread in China.
