Larry Elias James Cummins was born at Yalbraith, north-west of Taralga, on June 12, 1843. His parents, Joseph and Mary, emigrated from Ireland two years earlier and eventually had nine children. Larry married his first wife, Bridget Francis in 1861 and had two children.
