Pioneering Australian meat scientist L.E. (Les) Brownlie passed away on 20 June, aged 85.
Mr Brownlie’s contribution to the modern Australian meat industry has been extremely significant and lives on in the description and trading systems taking the industry forward today.
Retired for some years, he was university-educated in microbiology and was recruited from CSIRO to the old Australian Meat Board (the predecessor to the Australian Meat & Live-stock Corporation, and today’s Meat & Livestock Australia and Australian Meat Processor Corporation).
